I've had to migrate my site to a new format as the wiki
software that I was using started to mess up. For some reason
it decided to stop rendering
most new entries. Not all, just
most.
This left me with two possibilities, One the software was buggy
and it was just a glitch, or two the software was glitchy and
had corrupted the wiki database. In which case life was only
going to get a lot worse. Faced with these possibilities and
not wanting to learn
Perl just so I could debug some
code and
maybe get my
wiki back in shape, I decided to instead export my wiki to HTML
and create a flat site. This way I could easily back it up or
migrate to other systems.
I now have the site mostly migrated, as you see. there are
still a few glitches that I will get to when I can. So, please
excuse the occasional bad link or poor formatting for now.
Thanks.
Before any of the other techies go off on me about the use of
frames. I know frames are considered "evil" but my use of then
is sparing and it allowed me to migrate the site more quickly.
To do it with more finesse I'd have to migrate to different
server software and then set up the appropriate SSI's (remember
I think JavaScript is "evil" and refuse to inflict it and the
security risks it poses on my visitors.) The site will stay as
it is for the time being but later on down the road I probably
will move to a better (frameless) set-up. The priority right
now was getting the data out of the wiki before it totally
cacked and it became a much more difficult task, and getting
the pages back up in a presentable way that respects the values
of the
AsciiRibbonPlus
campaign.
